The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just being on the honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Membership in NJHS not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. Our chapter is formed by a select group of students who have demonstrated commitment to the five pillars of the NJHS. At Twin Towers, our chapter is dedicated to celebrating the diversity of our school community through different service projects and community events throughout the year.
The goal of NJHS is to build leaders and do service. Just some of our projects in the past have included leading incoming 6th grade tours and helping at open house, participate in the Middletown City wide clean up, collect donations for Socktober for our local homeless shelter, collect donations for the No Kid Hungry Program Here in Middletown, we have held fundraisers for various local charities, and most recently we have written gratitude letters to veterans for the “mail call’ for the Hudson Valley’s honor flight coming up in April.
The five main pillars guide the goals of NJHS: to create enthusiasm for scholarship (learning); to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop personal character. The pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character guide the membership requirements and the projects for our chapter.
One requirement for membership is scholastic eligibility. A cumulative GPA of 90% after six marking periods in middle school is necessary, so through MP 2 of 7th grade, to be considered for NJHS. Although you may earn honor roll or high honor roll throughout the year, this does not guarantee acceptance into the National Junior Honor Society.

Service (volunteering), extra curricular involvement and teacher recommendations are all highly regarded in faculty council decision making.
