Good attendance is an essential ingredient for academic success. Any absence from class is detrimental to the learning process. Classroom lessons foster and require social interaction, development of effective communication skills, critical thinking, and subject mastery.

To achieve educational goals and to maintain a true academic environment, scholars must attend their classes at least the required number of times. Scholars who fail to meet the minimum attendance and coursework requirements are at serious risk for failing the course and receiving no credit.

The Board of Education, in accordance with New York State Education Law, requires that each minor from age six to the end of the school year in which the scholar turns 16 years of age shall regularly attend school full-time, unless the scholar has completed a four-year high school course of study.  The scholar may attend a school other than a public school or receive home instruction,  provided the instruction is equivalent to that offered in the public schools.

Attendance: Every Day Matters

Parents are responsible for calling the main office, (845) 326-1650, at the start of the day if their child will be absent. All children are required to bring a note from their parents stating the reason for their absence(s) on the day they return to school. If parents anticipate that their child will be absent from school for three (3) or more days, they should contact the guidance office, at (845) 326-1648, to secure homework assignments.

Students are expected to arrive at school by 7:18 a.m. every day. Tardiness disrupts the education process. Two or more incidents of tardiness, without a written, acceptable excuse from a parent, may result in after-school detention or other disciplinary action.

A note is required when a student needs to leave school due to illness or to see a doctor. No child will be released from school unless the person is the parent and/or guardian, or is listed as an emergency contact on the student's Emergency Information Card. All parents and/or guardians, or emergency contact persons must show proper I.D. to sign out a student.

Unauthorized absence from school is considered truancy and will be treated as such. This includes absence from any class or activity during the school day for which the student is scheduled and any after-school special help session or disciplinary session that a student has been directed to attend. Disciplinary action will be taken in such cases, beginning with notification of parents.
